Quirky Christmas and DT call reminder

 I have managed to make one card, I've been in bed for a week with a virus or flu, not sure which! It is Quirky Reminder time, I didn't make it for the challenge due to computer problems, then getting sick!
I have used two cute Bugaboo images, they are one of our three sponsors this time, Skinny Bird Candy Cane and Skinny Bird Ornaments, they go so well together to make a scene.
The papers are: red and green striped from Craftwork Cards in a pad called Christmas Post, and the Merry Christmas Robins are from My Mind's Eye and the pad was a freebie with Card Making and Papercrafts magazine last year I think.
The ribbon is an exclusive from Crafty Ribbons and the digi and panel are cut with Spellbinders dies.
The images are coloured with Promarkers, with added glitter glue and Flowersoft in Polar White.

Quirky Kitchen

The challenge at Quirky Crafts this time is K for Kitchen, and we are sponsored by Robyn's Fetish and Digital Delights. I have had some family problems which escalated in the past few weeks so while I have been busy in the background keeping the blog cogs turning I just haven't had the energy to make something for this challenge. So I thought I would share this recipe scrapbook that I made for a previous challenge which fits the theme perfectly.

Above is the front cover, and below some of the pages with pockets and decoration, all digis are from our main sponsor Robyn's Fetish.

I also made some cookery book tag markers to go in one of the pockets of the book. All ribbons are from Crafty Ribbons.

Some of us remember it being Quirky hot!

It is Quirky reminder time in case you haven't guessed by the title! This is not a finished project, I have decided it will make a lovely notebook but just don't have the time to finish it today, so I thought I would show you the panel as it is. The digis are all from Digital Delights, the little girl is Beach Babe Britt, and I added a coconut tree (which is part of the Jungle Buddies accessories set) and oysters (clams) with their trail of pearls, just like you would find on the average British beach (not), seriously it does remind me of the Torquay palm trees which grow in our hotel garden in Torquay, and there are lots of shells on the beach but no pearls! The scen is coloured with Promarkers, with Liquid pearl pearls, and Cosmic Shimmer decoupaged sunglass lenses (second attempt - note to self: do not use Rock Candy Stickles for glasses ever again!). Papers are freebies.

There is a little mark at the bottom of the panel, which was a tiny bit of the next image on the sheet, I intend to cover that with an embellishment or sentiment, or maybe the name of the little girl I think will like this as a notebook.

Well I made a Quirky mess alright!

I'm back, with my second make for the Quirky Reminder. I decided to use the Gelli Plate (hmmm, where did I put it, scrabble scrabble, panic ----- oh There it is!), and re-watched some of the videos first, thought I was ready so after searching for the thing and then some paint I found I didn't have a great colour choice in cheap acrylic, mostly silver, gold, white and some green - oh and some yellow from a tube that split and I tried to save the contents by putting it in a plastic screw top jar and seems to be hardly usable and drying up now, I gave yellow a miss!

If the phone will upload the photos to the cloud I can show you WIP, which started out well then went downhill fast. I wanted to over print my first efforts, and I found some Plaid Artist Acrylic paint in maroon and green (more green), didn't shake it right away so ended up with clear gel stuff, shook it and got the paint, added some of both and brayered away. Tried to do some stuff with stencils and foam stamps, and ended up with a gloopy red and green mess on my card (I don't have Bristol paper, or even know what that is yet, so used my best stamping card here).

(So this was the ghost print from the first print, except I have run the roller over a blank bit and the roller had silver paint on it. It was actually looking promising at this point!

I printed over the green with silver you see, but then added this maroon and green Plaid paint, and tried lifting some like you do, but ended up with this total mess, see details below of how I got from this to .........

Today I came down and the mess was dry so I thought I would add some white over the top, maybe that would help, brayed the Gelli Plate, and then realised that all my efforts with stencils and torn paper was on the acrylic sheet that protects the plate - I forgot I covered it before going to bed! Never mind I wasn't going to waste that so tried to get a print anyway, semi successful. So got the cover off the plate and went for the bright green again, with stencils and again varying degrees of success. I brayered the paint through the stencils before removing them, didn't work on the flowery stencil, so got another one out for that corner.

I cut a panel, mounted it on Kraft, wrapped round some rafia, punched holes and used a couple of flat headed eyelets from WR Memory Keepers, added some metal letters that are ribbon sliders, and added the image which was first mounted on Kraft. The image itself is coloured with Promakers, and I tried to give it a middle of the night look with the shadow round the image, this went a bit wrong when I added blue dots, so I tried to cover it (unsuccessfully) with black glitter glue! I used clear gel medium on the water too. 

I love the image, it is so funny, it is called Ferald Sleepwalking from Squigglefly, what is Ferald? I think I might have coloured him wrong, he looks like a little lion cub to me, but Ferald could be a ferret perhaps!

Quirky media mayhem reminder

This is the first of three makes (I hope) for the Quirky reminder, and this image is from Digital Delights by Louby Loo, and is called Princess Delightful. I coloured her with Promarkers and atyou Spica pens, the die cut her and mounted her on a panel die cut from a sheet of card which I used behind numerous sprayed projects - so it was multi coloured with sparkly spray and I didn't know it would work so well as a die cut panel. The sentiment is also mounted on some of the die cut sprayed card. The purple panel has a die cut edge, all dies are Spellbinders. I found some sparkly gold and ivory fibre and used it down one edge.

Quirky Mayhem, of the messy mixed media variety!

 Gemma set the project this time as Mixed Media Mayhem, and told us to "get messy", well I certainly did that with my project (my hands are still very messy)! I chose this Digi, Tall Ship, from one of our sponsors Squigglefly, and wanted it to be on the sea. My sea isn't as good as I visualised, I had a fine oil painting effect in mind! I took one small flat canvas panel and covered it with white gesso first.When it was dry applied alcohol inks, using first some die cut clouds that I used as masks for the sky, then a wavy wave mask I bought at a show to get the horizon. I added the ship and coloured around the sails to match in with the sky and clouds. I added some fish and seahorse charms, and coloured them with Promarkers, and added glass ball gel medium mixed with acrylic white paint for the foam on the waves, applying it with a pallette knife (badly). I found a seagull stamp and stamped a few birds, and added some seashell ribbon to the hanging loop, the ribbon was from Crafty Ribbons a long time ago.

This is a close up of the project, messy or what! How I imagined this would end up was like a fine old masters oil painting - ermmm, think I have a long way to go!

 I hope to complete another project - it will be along later, and of course there will be many more examples next week in the reminder post.

Quirky Rainbows

Caro set the second challenge of the year at Quirky Crafts, the first was incredibly popular with 97 entries and it took us ages to decide on winners.

The new challenge is "Rainbow Bright" and Caro wants to see rainbows, rainbow colours or both on your project. 

The challenge is sponsored by Stitchy Bear and Digital Delights, all images provided to the DT were from Stitchy Bear.

I used Strawberry House with Garden Gate and Stained Glass Snail together to make a little scene. I added a Hero Arts Rainbow and Sentiment from a clear set called Sky's the Limit, which has some very cute clouds, sun, and a star and more sentiments, my favourite is a cloud sheep which I hope to use soon.

I also added another bigger rainbow but I have no idea who made the rubber stamp. Ribbon was from WH Smiths in a sale a couple of years ago, and buttons from stash. I hope you can read the sentiment, it says "wishing you rainbows" and I stamped it with Kaleidoscope Baby Rainbow colour ink pad, it is a little pale. Nestabilities used to cut out the image, the frame and the sentiment and background. All images were coloured with Promarkers and Trias.

I am going to make a second card so pop back later to see that one.

Quirky is recycling on the farm

Caro's challenge over at Quirky Crafts is called "Recycling on the Farm.

You have to make a farm themed craft project with at least one recycled element. The sponsors this time are Crafty Ribbons and Digital Delights by Louby Loo, therefore there are prizes for first and second. 

I used Claudia Cow from Digital Delights (I was going to make a card with more characters but my printer has chosen this week to give up printing, if I can get it going again in time I will make another card). I coloured the image with Promarkers, cut it out with Nestabilities and the sentiment stamps are by Penny Black. Moo ribbons by Crafty Ribbons of course, and my recycled elements are: pink holographic card (tissue box), patterned green card (tea bag box), leather flowers (furniture sample I found when clearing out some paperwork yesterday) and finally pink and black ribbons threaded through the large flower, black from a dress and pink was tied round a gift. I added a polka dot brad and Papermania gem to the flowers to finish them.

Clean and Simple Quirky challenge

Yes it is time for another Quirky Challenge, and Caro chose Clean and Simple. This is my example using Claudia the Cow from our Sponsor Digital Delights by Louby Loo, and the sentiment was also from them and goes perfectly with the image.
I coloured the image and sentiment with Promarkers and Trias and cut the image out with Spellbinders Nestabilities rectangles with a blue scalloped mat, and finally I added some Crafty Ribbons ribbon that says Moo on it. Simples!

The numbers game

Yes it is another Quirky Challenge, and you just need to include numbers on your make.

I used Chef Luigi and two sentiments from our sponsor this time: Digital Delights by Louby Loo. My numbers and the large sentiment are die cut with Sizzix dies, and I added the numbers to the top of the cake.The other sentiment is cut with Nestabilities circle and scalloped circle dies. I coloured the sentiments red and Luigi is coloured with Promakers.  Added Gingham ribbons from Crafty Ribbons and a Bowdabra made bow.

Quirky Crafts Challenge 25 - sketch

The challenge this week over at Quirky Crafts is to follow Lyn's sketch. The challenge is sponsored by Nikki and she has lots of cupcake designs and some other designs, some of which you will see on the Quirky Crafts Blog this week. I have used a digital download called Starry cupcake for my card. I coloured it with Promarkers, and decoupaged the cake, added Stickles to the stars, the paper is by DCWV, the cup cake ribbon is from Crafty Ribbon, can't remember who's brads they were, scalloped border is done using a Martha Stewart doily punch. Sentiment is from an MSE clear set, and the mini cupcake is from a Hero Arts clear set. Die cut shapes are cut with Spellbinders Nestabilities dies. Sorry is it a bit dark, I used my new mini photo studio again but the first time I used it I managed to break a lamp bulb while trying to put it away, and I haven't managed to replace it yet but finally I think I have found the right ones and they are on the way, so this photo was taken with only one of the two lamps working, (which is how I feel personally right now - 50% functional).
