Pretty Woman, walking down the street.....it's Quirky Charades

Here's my second attempt at playing Quirky Charades, this time my card is about a book and a song, Pretty Woman. Once again I was singing this song all the way through making my card!

I used Molly from Limited Runs, isn't she gorgeous!
I decided I wanted the film strip somewhere and it ruined her to have it over her, so I decided to put the street scene, using a Hero Arts stamp, behind her in the film - she is walking the streets after all!
I found the perfect papers in my 8"x8" DCWV Rockstar stack (discontinued), and I had looked at the smaller stack first, but it wasn't big enough. I was amazed to find that the larger stack had more foiled papers and more designs, and I hadn't noticed this beauty before and I am so glad I managed to find someone selling it. The pink seemed perfect for my theme, and I added the strip of stars which I also liked. Molly is coloured with Promarkers and Graph'it markers, I coloured her hair and did the shadow with Graph'its and the rest with Promarkers. The street scene is also coloured with a combination of the two. Molly was die cut with a Spellbinders die, the film strip is a Sizzix originals die. I added some black lace which seemed appropriate too.
I haven't added a sentiment yet.

Hop on over to Quirky crafts to play Charades and see what else the team has done!

Let's play Quirky Charades!

The challenge is Charades - is it a book, film or song? Your project has to be based on one of these and you must tell us which.
My first card is a based on a song, Welcome Home by Peter's and Lee, which I have been singing all afternoon while making this.

The digital stamp is from Paper Pretties and is called Welcome, which comes with several sentiments including the one I used that is perfect for my song! I coloured the image with Promarkers, and the doorknob with Spica's in gold, adding a brad over the knob. The paper is from HOTP, I thought it looked like a stone house wall. All rectangles are cut with Spellbinders build a card dies. I added a bit of Mod Podge sparkle over the "glass" area to give it a shine and sparkle, then I had to dumb down the lights to get the detail of the flower!

By the time this posts I will be hospital visiting, but I do have another card in progress so check back later to see that one.

Now hop over to Quirky Crafts to see some gorgeous examples and find out what everyone's song, book or film are.

I have entered the following challenges:
Through the craft room door - anything goes (27th Oct)
Bunny Zoe's - Animals (Nov 9th)

Autumn in Paris.

Julie is my Son Richard's Girlfriend, and I wanted to make a card that tied in with her main present from him, a trip to Paris - lucky girl! I didn't have as much time as I wanted to make this, so it is done in a hurry and maybe not as good as I wanted it to be. The reason for this was that on Thursday my mother in law had a mini stroke, and luckily a concerned relative rang us, and we spent a few hours over at her house finding out what happened, calling the doctor, waiting for the doctor etc. Then we dashed home for a quick and very late lunch while the doctor consulted the practice doctors, before she rang us to say she needed to go to the RUH in Bath for a CT scan.
So we set back off to collect her, after feeding the poor confused dogs, and take her down arriving at 4:30. At 9pm she had undergone examinations, blood tests, ECG, BP checks and was being wheeled off for a chest xray, and still hadn't had the CT scan, and we went home exhausted.
Yesterday wasn't much better, we spent the morning updating concerned friends and family, getting the shopping that we weren't able to do Thursday done, and after lunch we had to go to MIL's house and find her some clothes and toiletrys, and  a nightdress, and her medication - she was there with nothing at all. Then we went back to the hospital and sat with her for a couple of hours before dashing home for the plumber, and to cook dinner.
Then I made this card very quickly so that Richard could take it with him, and Julie's present is Euros for their trip, I really should have made the card to fit the Euros but when I realised I had started this and was too tired and short of time to change it.

I used a Stampendous Luggage Lables background stamp which has a Paris stamp at the top, stamped with Distress ink in Dusty Concord. I wrapped a piece of black lace round this and adhered it to a blue and white striped card blank, then added butterfly corners (Filigree corners, La La Land die which I won), and an Eiffel tower die cut from silver glitter card with a My Favorite Things Dienamics die. I popped a couple of  mother of pearl heart buttons on, then die cut some Mini Wavy Pennants, also with a Dienamics die, in white and stamped Happy Birthday on them to fly from the top of the tower.

I think I will be safe to post this - I don't want to spoil the surprise.
Happy Birthday Julie!

I found a couple of challenges to enter:
That Craft Place - girls but no pink (Sun)
Vintage Stamping - used purple (3rd Nov)

WOYWW #281

You may think not a lot has changed since I posted two weeks ago, and you could be right - except I just did a frantic tidy up before I took this photo, I am sure you don't believe me!
The most exciting thing on the desk this time is the set of Kraftin Kimmie stamps (pink), I won a $25 voucher on facebook for showing my stash of KKS and I agonised over which set to buy, eventually settling on a Rachel Anne Miller set which will be good for little boy cards, and I just had to have one of her Christmas stamps and a white paint Sharpie pen! I had to pay for those and postage of course.
The Crossover is still sitting there, and next to it (hiding next to the Promarkers) is the handle which fell off in my die cutting session a couple of weeks back. I have contacted Samuel Taylors who asked for photos (never been known to happen before - always me!) and have referred the matter to their supplier and I am waiting for the outcome of that.
It's disappointing that this should happen after very little use, and I did try putting the handle back on, can't get it the whole way so it falls off again. It might just need a tap with a hammer by someone with more strength than me!
Apart from that I have some Woodware glue bottles which have faulty pins that turn the glue brown, I contacted Woodware and they are sending me some new ones, and have asked me to test another one with some cheap glue, which I am doing and I can see the pin corroding even if the glue hasn't yet turned brown, so I think the pins are all untreated. Edited to say [Woodware told me there was a faulty batch a while back, but seemed surprised that  mine were faulty because I had bought them from Sir Stampalot and not a local shop (hence the request to test them again with cheap glue).]
The Promarkers are out because - 1, the pen organiser insert came out of the ArtBin again, so I need to take out all the browns, blacks, greys and purples and sort them back in and I haven't had the heart to do it yet, and the green ones are out because I am about to colour an image with them. There are still stamps and stencils out that need putting away and I am not showing you the view from the other end of the desk - I am too ashamed, it is depressing!
I have managed to shift quite a bit of stuff but it doesn't seem to make any difference - is it because I buy more to replace it I wonder?
Anyway in finding some cheap glue I found one bottle had dried up too much to be any use except to be put on with a trowel, so that went in the bin, and today while tidying I realised I have a whole drawer full of large bottles of glitter glue, glitter paint and 3d paints that could be up to 10 years old and maybe are not a lot of good either. If that is the case I can clear a whole drawer for something else to go away!
Why am I telling you all of this? If you really want to know hop on over to The Stamping Ground where the lovely Julia Dunnit will explain all!

Another angel.

Here is version 2 of the angel card using the Creative Expressions angel die with the Creative Expressions lattice bow die, and Spellbinders Edgeabilities. I added some pearls and gems, and a length of ribbon. This time I have rounded the corners and used the heart accessory for the angel to hold.

She has flown into the following challenges:
Moving along with the times - white only Christmas (Thurs)
ABC Christmas - U is for Uncoloured (Wed)

Any Quirky frame will do!

My first card has a window frame on it, the image from Bugaboo is called Snow Friends Window. It is coloured with Promarkers and some Cosmic Shimmer glue on the light bulbs to make them shine. The paper I think is Papermania, and the Ribbon is from Crafty Ribbons.

I have entered this card into the following challenges:
Little Miss Muffet - #96 anything goes with Bugaboo image (Wed)
Pile it on - Cheerful or uplifting message (Sun)
Crafty Little Fairies - one designer paper (Oct)

This image is also from Bugaboo and is called Make it Snappy - Skelekinz Merry Christmas. I coloured the image with Promarkers and added some black glitter glue by Papermania to the tree. The frame is built in to the image, and is coloured with blue Promarker and dots of Distress Stickles in Peeled Paint colour. The paper is from a Daisy and Dandelion pad by Papermania, and I bought the skull and crossbones ribbon from someone on facebook. Now who deserves this little card I wonder?

Left of Centre - sketch or LOC, I did LOC (Fri)

That's Crafty - spooky (31st Oct) WINNER

Pan Pastels - Halloween colours (1st Nov) WINNER

This must be a lucky card!

Here she is with lipstick on!

Finally an image from The East Wind called Kettle Mon Amour. She is coloured with Promarkers and gold roller ball pen, and I added some Polar White Flower Soft, the only Flower Soft I have ever bought, for snow and on her fur trims, I'm not sure you can see it in the photo. This time I die cut my frame with a Spellbinders die, well two of them because I cut out the centre so it would be a proper frame. The ribbon is from Crafty Ribbons, even the Merry Christmas ribbon which I am not sure they do any longer.

I have entered this card into the following challenges:
Through the Craft Room Door - anything goes (Oct 20th)
Diva's by Design - texture (Wed)
I love Promarkers - snowflakes (Wed)

Let's Quirky Frame it.

It is my challenge this time, and I want to see frames, in the image, round the image, made frames - any type of frame will do.
I always make cards back to front, that is I normally colour the image first then decide what to do with it, and I decided to make an arch card in black card using a Spellbinders die, I added the image, lace and mother of pearl buttons.
The image is coloured with Promarkers and Spica pens, and is called Lucy Loo Mirror Mirror from The East Wind, she is pretty special, and is emerging from a mirror frame.

I have entered the following challenges:
Daring Card Makers - out of this world (Fri)
Creative Card Crew - black cardstock (21st Oct)
Crafty Boots - Autumn/Halloween (26th Oct)
One Sweet Challenge - Halloween (Oct)
Cards Galore - something scary (Oct)
Paula Holifield - Boo! (Oct)

This is a pretty simple card because I ran out of time on Friday as I was getting ready for my holiday, see the previous post for all I had to do!
This card uses an image complete with a frame, called Make it Snappy  - Hay There from Bugaboo, one of our two wonderful sponsors at Quirky Crafts this time.

So hop on over and see what the rest of the team have done, and join in.

I have entered this card in the following challenges:
Little Miss Muffet - anything goes (Oct)

WOYWW #279

It's Wednesday the traditional day for sharing your spaces at The Stamping Ground. So here is my desk, looking almost tidy, the Crossover is still on it but in the folded position, and next to it I am working on another angel card. I cut out 4 angels and each card is going to be a little different, I will blog them if I can later (and if I finish the one I am working on) but I am very busy and only have a couple of days before we go away for a late holiday in Devon.

I have to get the house ready for our house and dog sitters (my son and his girlfriend), get supplies in, make the bed, make lists for them etc, and I haven't begun packing yet. I also have a pile of ironing I need to do in order to pack some of it.  I also need to make some examples for my challenge this weekend at Quirky Crafts, because I suddenly realised it was my challenge and I won't be around! (Don't Panic - craft on). Whenever something like this happens I have plans and they always get hijacked in some way, leaving me up at silly o'clock the day before we leave trying blearily to finish stuff!

This afternoon I was on a diabetic annual refresher course, I did the whole course last year. It is interesting and useful for everyone, I wish I had been sent on it before I became diabetic.
If you want to know about WOYWW hop over to the Stamping Ground to find out what the fuss is about!

Sunday 5 October 2014

It is getting Quirky colder, and those leaves are still falling.

To make a change from Ike's Art lovely cats, here is an Ike's Art lovely dog image. He is called Leaf Pooch, and is such a happy Jack Russell that I thought the Hero Arts Sending Smiles stamp was perfect to go with him and it is stamped in brown Versacolor and heat embossed with clear EP. I cut all the panels out with Spellbinders card creator and rectangle dies. I found some Autumn Papermania ribbon with more leaves on it. The paper is HOTP Artsy Collage. I kept this card monotone in shades of brown, apart from the green in the ribbon, and pink tongue, and it is coloured with Graph'Its, and Promarkers which blend together beautifully.
This card is made in the same way, paper from the same pad, and same sentiment (and I used another dog image). I just thought this was such an amusing scene it would make someone smile too. The image is called Standing Guard by Gingerloft from Stitchy Bear Stamps, the ribbon is also from the same pack.
This image is coloured mostly with Promarkers, with a little Graph'Its brown for the soil, they blend together beautifully.

Our sponsor is Stitchy Bear, and the challenge is happening at Quirky Crafts now, you have until Saturday 11th October to join in.

I have entered the following challenges with a woof:

WOYWW #278

It's Wednesday already, so time to go exploring other folks craft spaces at The Stamping Ground. This fine tradition was started by Julia Dunnit, and has become an institution all over the world as participants fight for first place lol!

On my desk today is the Cheery Lyn Crossover, I got it out to do some die cuts and thought I should use my new die, while the machine was still out. So I made a Christmas card that  you can see in the previous post, using the Creative Expressions angel die. As a result my desk is all about die cutting this week, well the Crossover takes up most of it!
Can you see Nicholas Cage on the TV?

If you want to explore a few desks hop on over to The Stamping Ground, where I will not be first even though I blogged this long before the WOYWW post went up! I will be in bed and probably end up between numbers 40 to 70, unless I remember really early to log on and link!

Angelic

I bought this beautiful Creative Expressions angel die in a 40% off sale, well it would have been rude not to!
This is a white on white card or more accurately ivory pearlescent, I cut the wavy edge of the panel with Spellbinders dies, and the letters with Sizzix Bounce. I used the dove, harp and star which come with the angel, There is also a gift die which I didn't use. I added three flat back pearls, some clear gems and some silk ribbon, the bow was made with the Bowdabra. I dotted the drop out pieces from the die cuts rund the angel.
This is the first card with no stamping for a long time, and I am pleased with it.

Now it is October I need to draw my blog candy winner out, I will do that soon!
